If you have been to Okeeheelee Park lately, you’re probably asking yourself, “What’s all that construction around the center lake?”. The answer is exciting! Greg Norman Jr. is in the process of building Shark Wake Park, an “aqua park” and “wake park”.

An Aqua Park is an inflatable floating obstacle course featuring monkey bars, climbing towers, and slides. Some park visitors may recall seeing an early version of this at Okeeheelee Park last year. The major construction you see happening now is for the wake park, a cable wakeboarding center. All those huge, oddly shaped white things in the water are the ramps and rails the riders will be using.

According to Norman, cable wakeboarding is similar to water skiing, but on a boards like a small surfboard. Wakeboard riders are pulled by a high-tech pulley system instead of a boat. The pulley system picks up ropes from the starting dock and pulls riders in a circle around the lake. Riders can utilize the ramps and rails on the sides of the lake to try new tricks.

The company has a similar existing park in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Okeeheelee Park version, called Shark Wake Park 561, is scheduled to be open for summer 2019.
