Pooch Pines Dog Park & Sports Complex

The most heavily used part of Okeeheelee on any given afternoon is probably this one: Pooch Pines dog park alongside a full sports complex of ballfields, tennis and pickleball courts, and playgrounds — the everyday recreation side of a park better known for golf and BMX.

Pooch Pines: split by size, not a free-for-all

Pooch Pines is set up with separate fenced yards for large and small dogs, which keeps a boisterous Labrador from overwhelming somebody's Chihuahua and is one of the more thoughtful dog park layouts in the county system. Both yards have shade and water access, and like any off-leash dog area, it runs on an honor system for cleanup and supervision — owners are expected to stay with their dogs and keep an eye on how their dog is interacting with others, not treat it as a drop-off.

Ballfields, courts, and playgrounds

Beyond the dog park, this part of Okeeheelee carries much of the park's everyday sports infrastructure: multiple ballfields for baseball and softball, tennis courts, and pickleball courts that have become increasingly popular as the sport's grown across Florida in recent years. Playgrounds nearby round it out as one of the more family-friendly zones in the park, and this area tends to be the busiest on weekend mornings and weekday evenings when local leagues and pickup games are common.

Good to know before you go

Courts and fields in this section of the park are lighted for evening use, which extends playable hours well past sunset during cooler months. If a specific ballfield or court is reserved for a league game or tournament, casual walk-up use may be limited during that block — checking ahead is worth it if a particular field or court is the goal rather than just whatever's open. As with the rest of the park, there's no fee to use the dog park, courts, or fields for casual play; organized league or tournament use goes through the county's permitting process.
